Background

Rhythm & Hues Studios was established in Los Angeles, California in 1987 by six former employees of Robert Abel and Associates (including Keith Goldfarb, Pauline Ts'o and John Hughes), and it has grown to become one of the entertainment industry's leading producers of computer generated visual effects and character animation for movies and commercials. The company's success has been driven by the development of their proprietary software–for both photo-realistic and stylized character animation and visual effects. The studio has three facilities: two of them are in India , one in Malad, a suburb of Mumbai; and the other in HITEC City, which is part of the Information Technology industry in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Along with the Los Angeles office, the three overseas facilities are run as one company, using the same production pipeline and sharing work between facilities.

The company's first office was in a tiny space in Culver City that had once been occupied by a dentist. The company then moved to Hollywood, and at present its Los Angeles office is once more in Culver City.
